Okay. Weird thing.

Not weird, I guess, just, hrm. Something I never really thought of before.

Someone in one of my communities was inviting people to a meet up of sorts somewhere in the northern-ish parts of England (idk my UK geography very well) and people were saying things like 'yay I will be there' or 'alas, I cannot make it' &c&c because that is normally happens.

But then I started thinking about like... where this is all going down. I found myself a labeled map and checked out some cities in England and decided to see how long it would take to like, cross the island.

Guys. Google Maps gives me the rough estimate of a trip starting in Plymouth, UK, stopping in Ipswich, UK and ending in Aberdeen, UK at just under 16 hours. THAT'S ACROSS ONE COUNTRY, ALL THE WAY UP AND INTO THE NEXT.

LET'S LOOK AT A MAP.

map number one )

Significant trip, yes?

Okay, now if my mother left her house now in Whitby, ON, drove up to mine to get me and Katie in North Bay, ON and then we continued on to my uncle's place just out of Thunder Bay, ON (all in one province, not crossing any borders), IT'S ESTIMATED THAT WOULD TAKE ONE HOUR MORE THAN THE FIRST TRIP.

Shorter to drive across an entire country than to go visit my uncle and his hot tub.

LET'S SEE THAT MAP NOW.

Sure, the maps are not on the same scale, BUT YOU CATCH MY DRIFT, RIGHT?

tl;dr!! I'm exhausted and realizing Canada is huge. Also, what's up, UK, I could road trip the hell out of you.

After a particularly arduous journey yesterday, I have safely arrived at my mother's house. There was some crazy snowstorm business going on for the middle half of the bus trip. The bus had to pull over about eight times for the worst of it to pass, which was scary because with 60 in my bank account and no cell service, I did not want to be stranded in Bracebridge.

Other than the terror though, I realized how absolutely gorgeous snow actually is when you're not outside in it. The lights from the bus headlights made it all sparkly on the trees. And I mean, there's a lot of trees during a five hour trip that is a large majority through the woods. All the pine trees looked weighed down and snowtastic and all the leafless, branchy trees looked skeletal and ghostly and it was pretty and haunting and gave me an idea for a story which I'm not supposed to talk about but kind of just did anyways.

Now I'm at my mama's place (until the 29th, whew!) and instead of fighting McLovin' for my food or the nice spot on the bed or my socks, I have to wrestle Mama's cat AND her three dogs. It's like, 'sure Lillith's dead, but now Satan's here and he wants to steal my body.'

Yeah that sentence should prolly read 'out of the frying pan and into the fire.' That's what I meant. For sure.

Stanley, who is already very big for a Boston, apparently grew a whole bunch since I have been here last (Thanksgiving!). I am considering leaving my clothes here and putting him in my suitcase instead. He could hold his own against the spaniel 'o' doom, I do believe.

Mama has a list of holiday related chores for me to do. A very, very long list. On one hand, it will keep me form OD-ing on the internet. On the other hand, ew, chores.

New York City had never experienced such a fiasco. A bus with 50 All Saints students and four staff was headed towards her for four days... Can she retain her dignity, or will these beasts destroy all that stands in their way? Find out right now, on History Television.

[Patricia edit: Imagine it's the guy who does all the voiceovers for movie trailers saying this.....See? Sounds much cooler.]

*dramatic music*

...Actaully, it wasn't that bad. We had a great time and only one person got into 'trouble' [yes, me, shut up. I was only eight minutes late...]. No one got recognizably drunk or stoned [save one, this time not me]. We didn't loose anyone, or anything. And we took soo many pictures. I'm actually writing at you from Trisha's, where her and myself are going through all the pictures from our three cameras and filing/organizing them.

But without further ado, I present to you: The New York Extravaganza )

Wooohooo! Back from my TRIP now. I had such a good time.

I also have about ten thousand pictures to post and such and stories galore.

But most importantly of all: I had recieved word from The Mango that I have been cordially invited, and word for The Mother that this might not be so impossible after all.

Hi hip hooray and a baklava!

So I had an interesting conversation with Cassin this morning. He's really a nice kid.

And the general consensus of the conversation?

WE ARE BOTH SO FUCKING EXCITED FOR THE TRIP.

Yep, basically.

We also both love musicals and Ms. Stokes.

Funny, random thing I noticed: his shirt looked like a couch I used to have in my basement.

I went on retreat today. Boy, was that an ordeal. I've always hated Mr. Minardi's retreats, but he wasn't there today, so I thought: BONUS.

I was sorely mistaken.

It suuuuucked. Boring, plus it poured rain so we couldn't even go outside.

That wasn't so bad, though, because I just wrote for my portfolio the whole time. And I do love the chocolate milk. The kitchen ladies make goooooood chocolate milk.

And East Wind Blows is generally a good time. But the 'retreat' bit of the retreat was awful.

I like Anthony Perkins.

Leaving for trip in... less than 12 hours, but more than 11!!

[Okay, I never said I was good at math]

I can't ignore it anymore. There have been definite rumours of an arts department based trip to New York City in April. Which would kick ass.

Even with the added bonus of Ms. Denomme, Tom, and a chorus of others whom I cannot stand, going to a foreign place for any extended length of time away from adult supervision is something that I would be able to deal with.

Also the likely chance of hot boys. Which is also something I could deal with.

Not to mention all sorts of artsy things. Going to museums, taking in a show, and what have you. All good, wholesome things.

Ooh, then there's our Sociology field trip next Tuesday. Who's bright idea it was to take sixty of us to Kingston and turn us loose for a day needs to be institutionalized.

...Did I spell that right? Never mind.

Oh yes, and the jaunt up to the Al Green Theatre to see Macbeth last month. That was pretty fun too.

Man, this year rocks for trips and events and such. Not like last year. Not like last year's sole, half day trip to the DC Skills Training Centre. That was lame. The highlight of that was that I saw a squirrel. Yeah, a freakin' squirrel.

Honest: a squirrel.

Ms. Stokes asked me if I would be interested in going to see Wicked when it opens in March. I panicked.

Why did no one tell me it was coming here?!

It opens 8 March! And I'm finding out today? But still, that's so awesome. I'm excited.

And I'm also excited because I figured out today that I can have me license by August of next year. My G2 license. That's pretty darn impressive. But I can't pull a Lisa and fail a bunch of times with the G1.

But the DMV = governement agency. So it may not be open late into December, which is when I'd be going to write.

On a completely different note: does anyone remember the nursery rhyme about the pussycat and some other animal who do something and something in a pea green boat?

[n.b. I had to add this. It's just too amusing for me to keep to myself.

Because really? It's not. (it's based on one's lj interests). I find the Book of Revelation to be interesting. But love? Not quite. It's sort of the opposite.]
