Dirty Little Secret
Jan. 8th, 2009 09:22 pmConfession time!
I am here tonight to partially reveal a shameful, horrible secret (but not fully because I need to retain at least some shred of self respect). I'm a bad reader. Awful, in fact. I read almost nothing but junk. Fiction of no consequense, fluff on the internet, comic books... Nothing wrong with any of it, of course, but when it's all I consume.
I have a list as long as my arm of the classics, the epics, the best loved literary treasures, the academic reccommendations, that I've never read a word of because I'm too lazy to put the effort in. But no more! It's proactive solution time!
Wednesday I shall be trekking the library to obtain a card (yes, almost three years in this city and I don't yet have one)and to pick up the first book from my list of twenty that I hope to finish by the summer (so I can spend my lazy summer months with my fluff and overwrougth fantasy novels).
Now I will not post a list of these books, because it would make you gasp in horror at some of the books I (a self proclaimed reading fanatic and one-time English major) has not read yet, and would only serve to further guiolt me for having avoided such 'greats' for such a long time.
I am, however, taking reccommendations from you. Send me your brightest and finest and I'll immerse myself once more into literacy.
So if you see me in the next few months looking particularly grim about my choice of reading material, it's because I have just finally realized that most of the pieces on ym list don't have pictures to follow along with.
