Rambling, ho!

So. We meet again, pain killers and muscle relaxants. Enemies or friends, are we?
Long story short, I fell out of a tree and life won't let me forget it. My shoulder has been really funky the last few days, what with the not staying fully in the socket and the crippling pain and whatnot. My doc phoned in the prescription for muscle relaxants because we're both officially afraid of the school doctor up here. She likes to give out killer drugs to people. Including those with little to no sypmtoms. 'Sad? Well, that might have something to do with your complete lack of friends, dead parents and your horrible alcohol dependancy, but just to be safe, have a bunch of effexor.' Because prescribing killer anti-depressants to orphans is the only way to earn that teardrop tattoo.
What was I talking about? *Gurgle* Mmm. Ow.
I decided to update about my life while I can type without the hurting.
I have started DMing Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 games for a few friends (and a stranger who ended up in my house, but it's okay because he wasn't a serial killer). It's actually going really well and we're having a lot of fun. And you know, I totally rock, apparently. It's nice to know I'm good at making stuff up and rolling dice. I have a talent! Woo! *champagne*
I'm also going to a D&D convention in January. Yes, you read that right. Just when you thought my life couldn't get... more let's say 'intense'. I mean, there is nothing wrong with going to conventions (or else I wouldn't be doing it). I also like going to medieval faires and I'm planning my first anime convention for May '08. But... talk about a hobby. A year a two months ago I had never touched a d20 in my life. Now I'm paying money to play some games? I guess it's the same concept for like, taking dance classes at a kid (but I dropped out of those because they didn't like fat chicks).
I'm doing it to meet new people. Like my boyfriend's first and true love and his best friend and the girl he lost his virginity to (those three descriptions are all for the same person). That'll be freaking great. Especially because he's probably not going to be there to mediate and he likes to tell me stories of how she can be such an evil bitch to people and you know, she's running some of the games apparently.
Suddenly a fun weekend with friends is turning into a battle for my life (and Lisbet's).
IN OTHER NEWS
I want to talk about fandom for second, and how it's a wild beast. *ahem*
Fandom is wild, wild beast whom no mistress can tame.
That is all.
Heh heh. Kidding. Mucle relaxants make me yappy.
When I first started in the fanfiction (which thus far has been the way I am most related to fandom), it was Newsies. Sweet, sweet Newsies. Now I've been through many 'phases' since then, most of them staying with me in a little way here or there, but I always find myself coming back to Newsies. Why is this? Do I just like it more?
And another thing!
I rarely read fic that would typically be labelled 'gen' (as in something without a romantic focus). I read books like that. In fact, those are the only books I do read (no trashy romance for me. Until 'Sweethearts' is published!). And my life is pretty 'gen'. Yes, I get cuddles on a regular basis, but no sweeping romance or kinky sexual explots (usually). I believe this is the reason I read more 'romance'y type fanfiction.
Lily and James, Ron and Hermione, Faramir and Eowyn.
Those right there are pretty much the only het pairings I'll read. Even all the other canon pairings in my fandoms get on my nerves. And no, pretty much if you're writing a relationship-based fiction and your summary has OMC or OFC, I won't read it. I read fanfiction so I don't have to expend brain cells and precious energy meeting new characters. What the hell is wrong with you people, anyways?? the whole world is in an energy CRISIS. Gah. The audacity of it all.
So, my fixation on slash.
Why and how? (not the how of the slash itself. Trust me... I know 'how' :O)
But why slash? Why does the idea of Nick and Greg spooning catch my interest any more than Sarah and Greg would?
If anyone out there can explain it, or point me int he direction of the wise one who can, please do.
And go. Go right now to youtube and watch the clip from Ten Inch Hero. You will thank me. I would like my thanks in the form of an industrial strength leaf blower. See below:
Hot boy + kilt x leaf blower = very good things
That's math, folks. Real, honest to gods, math. I'm not sure which gods, mind you. Most likely the gods of male bits&bites.
